The distortion at 20 mm is minimal but on the other hand the rendering even at the edges at full aperture is really very good considering that it is a zoom. The only real flaw it has is that in the rest position (i.e. zoom not extended) it is at 40 mm while logic would have liked it to be the other way around, but on balance it is not a real defect. Good news for night owls: from about F9 the lights become stars and at full aperture the stars do not suffer noticeably from coma or aberrations.

Opinion: An almost one-of-a-kind lens, light and compact that starting from 20mm allows you to leave even the wide-angle lens at home. For many genres it could be the only lens to carry around, possibly flanked only by a telephoto lens, if necessary. Excellent image quality, quiet and precise autofocus, nice blur at 40mm, plus the close focusing distance allows you to get creative. With the fixed 2.8 it adapts very well to indoor situations with low light and night photography. It's become the lens that I always keep attached to my camera. On the A74 I can use it in apsc with the simple press of a button, reaching 60mm equivalent. Maybe if you look closely in some situations you can detect a slight vignetting or a slight distortion, but overall nothing particularly noticeable and that cannot be solved with a click.
