Pros: Everything, except the price.

Cons: The price.

Opinion: I have tried this lens last weekend at a local Fuji event. . The lens performs just great - fast and decisive AF, superbly comfortable to hold (with XT4 body). As for optical tests you can see test online - it is a s good as the earlier 56mm lens = very good. I actually prefer images from this new lens - the bokeh at wide open seems to look nicer and smoother. . BUT the price ... (asking EUR 1100, here) ... is one of the reasons I am selling off all my Fuji gear in 2023 and moving on to another brand, with FF sensor, brighter lenses, at 60-75% of Fuji prices. I already got a new Sigma 85 1.4 for my new kit ... at EUR 850 (sic !!!) . And so good-bye Fuji - no need for a lens that is effectively a f 1.8 lens - and costs 50% more than the other, excellent too, glass !!!

Pros: IQ in all its aspects; WR

Cons: AF

Opinion: Fantastic goal. The image quality is impressive: it has no aberrations; sharp; fire-off switch soft fire, without giving the cropped effect; already excellent yield at 1.2. The only big problem: the autofocus. Evidently Fujifilm wanted to castrate it to keep a sense in the 50 f/1, I can't explain otherwise the choice not to put the LMs in this lens as well. In dynamic situations it makes you lose some shots and this should not be accepted, but the rendering of the image is such that it makes me go well. Not to mention the fact that it weighs and bulks (and costs) much less than the 50 f/1

Pros: Image plasticity, sharpness, out-of-focus detachment, build quality.

Cons: Price, size.

Opinion: I took it and used it for a while on the X-T3, it was rendered wonderful at all distances, with sharpness, even at the edges, and really remarkable out-of-focus detachment. The plasticity of the focus zone and the detachment of the subject are also guaranteed by closing the aperture. I then switched to the X-T5 and, if possible, its merits stand out even more. First portrait lens, together with the old brother 35 1.4, which I prefer over the x-e4 for reasons of weight and size. More than enough autofocus for my purposes, especially on the X-T5. It is now one of the optics that, after seeing the results, I can no longer do without.

Pros: Excellent image quality (holds up to 40 MP very well), progressive and smooth bokeh, construction, minimum MAF distance, flare resistance, no aberrations, tropicalization, 11 blades, AF

Cons: Only one: the price.

Opinion: I love the mid-telephoto focal length, especially the 85: the 56 1.2 R WR is an 85 equivalent on FF. I come from an excellent lens like the Nikon 85 1.8 Z (the best 85 ever tried on full format), but this Fuji keeps up with it abundantly and does not make you regret the larger format at all. Fuji has designed an absolute lens: the image quality is very high at TA, the blur soft and progressive. In fact, if you like canvases that make everything flat before and after the MAF plan, with that sticky figurine effect, the new 56 is not for you: I repeat, from this point of view it is a progressive and gradual perspective. If we want to find a characteristic compared to the old, which it surpasses from every point of view, it is the micro-contrast, more accentuated: when you have it, you can remove it, when you don't have it it is difficult to put it. So if you like a less contrasty and more ethereal image, just act in PP. Excellent flare resistance, absence of aberrations even in backlight, more than decent AF reactivity even in low light conditions: you can perceive the noise of the lenses, heavy, that are moved. The AF motor is quiet. If you close a little, the light points are spherical thanks to the 11 slats. What can I say? A lens that borders on perfection. The only flaw may be the price: but such quality has to be paid for. In short, if you love portraiture and you are a lover of the Fuji system, an absolute "must have". You won't regret the purchase.

Pros: Improved in all its weak points including the minimum focusing distance (which made me switch to 90mm f2 at the time) from the construction (excellent now the aperture ring) to the elimination of outlines in bokeh balls! Brava Fuji

Cons: At the moment not found I will reserve the right to correct the "cons" eventually. The only drawback (always in my opinion) is the embarrassing plastic hood! I bought an aluminum JJC, elegant, contained in the measures and perfectly functional. Finally, it wouldn't hurt to equip it with an ND8 filter. But maybe that's asking too much :)

Opinion: A nice leap forward compared to its predecessor (APD version included) impressive IQ and improved bokeh (at least for my taste). Aperture ring finally at the height and focus a little more solid and frictioned that does not hurt when you focus manually at f1.2 I can only recommend it to those like me who love portraiture. On my X-T5, with its 40 mega pixels, it goes that it is a wonder ... P.S. the minimum focusing distance is less than the declared 50cm!!!
