Al centro di Roma si trova un edificio storico quasi del tutto sconosciuto. Ci troviamo ai margini del rione Pigna, tra P.zza Venezia e Largo Argentina. In Piazza del Gesù si trova Palazzo Altieri e la chiesa del Gesù ed accanto ad essa la Casa Professa del Gesù che ospita quattro delle stanze in cui visse Sant'Ignazio di Loyola. Ignazio di Loyola era un soldato spagnolo, nato nei Paesi Baschi, che durante una battaglia contro l'esercito francese si convertì al cristianesimo. Arrivò a Roma nel 1537 dopo aver avuto un'apparizione della vergine che gli indicò di fondare un suo ordine proprio all'interno dell'Urbe. Nel 1544 così fece costruire una casa per se e per una ristretta cerchia di seguaci. Dopo la sua morte, la piccola casa in cui aveva dimorato fu completamente distrutta da un'alluvione che nel 1598 causa lo straripamento del Tevere. Si salvarono soltanto le quattro stanze che ancora oggi sono visitabili. Considerata la grande popolarità del santo si decise di costruire al posto della precedente abitazione, un edificio molto più grande che potesse conservare queste quattro piccole camere. Nel 1650 durante il Giubileo ci fu un flusso così continuo e cospicuo di pellegrini verso la casa la quale i visitatori invasero la tranquillità della comunità gesuita che qui pregava e viveva. La soluzione che si trovò fu così di creare uno spazio adatto per i pellegrini ai Gesuiti. Ovviamente si doveva pensare ad una decorazione della nuova stanza e si affidarono i lavori a Jacques Courtois detto Il Borgognone, gesuita anch'egli. Il pittore francese fece in tempo però a decorare soltanto gli interni delle finestre disegnando scene di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola. Dopo la sua morte si fece avanti Andrea Pozzo che completò con le sue pitture questo corridoio prospettico. Il bellissimo corridoio prospettico affrescato risale invece al 1680. Andrea Pozzo fece dei miracoli architettonici. Le immagini se viste da vicino, appaiono fortemente distorte ma questo perché Andrea Pozzo le aveva realizzate in modo tale che fossero viste da un unico punto: dalla ruota posta al centro del salone. Da qui le figure riassumono la loro giusta volumetria, le loro linee naturali. Quello che realizza il pittore uno sfondamento visivo della parete, una prosecuzione dello spazio attraverso una sapiente tecnica llusionistica e prospettica. Tante sono le scene di vita del santo sapientemente affrescate da Pozzo. La visita in questo luogo semisconosciuto vi lascerà a bocca aperta
