Recommended equipment :Reflex, wide angle for landscapes, super-telephoto for wildlife.
Anti-bear spray as a precaution.
Warmers for autumn / winter.
Best months :June-October
How to get there :From Calgary, take the Trans Canada Highway (Highway Number 1) west towards Banff. After about 60 km exit and follow the signs to Kananskis Country.
Visits :The entrance to the park is free. Some roads are closed from December to May.
Notes :Kananaskis Country and 'a collection of many parks and ecological zones have been That Brought together under one name: Kananaskis Country (or more' simply Kananaskis). Being more 'different inputs parks exist. The one listed above and 'the main one. The park was created to give vent to much more 'famous Banff National Park and it' been the site of the Olympics in 1988.
The village can 'easily be avoided, since it is a small hotel complex. The view from the village is on a small mountain and 'pretty enough.
Places: many places to visit and photograph, you can stop anywhere even leaving the car on the side of the road. The views are endless. Listed below are my favorites:
-Barrier Lake Day Use: This should be visited Especially in autumn (meta 'in September) Because of Poplars. Preferably on a cloudy day.
-Mount Lorette Ponds: this and 'a small pond emerald green and blue.
-Shanondoah Falls and 'easy to miss this small waterfall along the road on the left. The most 'interesting not' know the waterfall as the stream in the forest.
-Boundary Ranch (autumn, early morning or evening): along the road just past the exit to the village of Kananaskis, there 'a ranch on the left That you can see behind the Poplars. Park your car and spend hours photographing the Poplars.
-Wedge Pond (early morning) and 'a classic postcard. Lake, mountains, reflections, etc. ..
-Kananaskis Lake (morning): There are two lakes (upper and lower). Go to 'Upper Kananaskis Lake to photograph centuries-old half-submerged logs eroded by the weather. Many possibilities' Also macro and abstract compositions.
-Highwood Pass (evening): One of my favorite places. At 2400m the trees begin to thin out, creating a unique alpine environment. Add sunset light (in the morning unfortunately not 'the best) and you have an idyllic place for landscape photography. There 'a mountain trail very nice (lots of marmots) That starts from the top' of the road.
Bears (grizzly bears and blacks) go much the area around the lakes, I know it carefully and prudently. Highly recommended to sleep in tents (there are several campsites). Bears and deer are usually seen along the road in the evening (if you photographed without leaving the machine does not get scared).
